Products, options, and stock

How to register products, attach choices such as color or size, and manage stock.

There are two kinds of options

The terms are easy to mix up, so let's sort them out first.

A T-shirt's color and size are combination options, and a laundry net sold with the T-shirt is an add-on product.

Creating combination options

Do this in the options area of the product edit screen. The steps go in a fixed order.

Option axes and combinations

  1. Set up axes. An axis is one dimension of choice. Enter a name such as color or size, and add values under it.
  2. Click Generate combinations. With two axes, you get as many rows as the product of their value counts. 2 colors x 3 sizes gives 6 rows.
  3. Fill in each row. Enter the extra price, stock, and SKU. The extra price is added to the base price, so you can leave it at 0.
  4. You can set up to 3 axes. If you need four or more, it's better to split the product. The number of combinations grows quickly and becomes hard to manage.

You can edit after generating combinations

You can change axis names or values after generating combinations. Existing combinations carry over as they are. If you add new values and click Generate combinations again, only the missing rows are created. Stock and prices of existing rows are kept.

Combination names aren't stored; they are rebuilt from the axis values each time. So if you later link translations to axis names, even past order history appears in that language.

    When stock is 0

Only that combination becomes unselectable. The product itself keeps selling. When every combination reaches 0, the product is shown as sold out.

    Add-on products

Create a list separate from the combinations. Enter a name, price, and stock for each item. Buyers pick as many as they want on the product detail page.

    Adding translations

There is a translation button next to the option name, axis names, and axis values. Click it to link text for each language.

Once linked, it appears in English on the English screen and in Japanese on the Japanese screen. The same goes after a combination is chosen and in order history.

For languages without linked text, the originally entered text is shown as is.

    Stock management

In Console > Stock, search and then edit quantities right in the row. You don't have to open each product one by one.

Products with combinations show one row per combination. Combination names are displayed in the current language.

Promotions give a group of products its own page and banner. Use them for limited-time groupings such as a summer sale.

    Common sticking points

I generated combinations, but they don't appear on the purchase screen

Check whether all stock is 0. If every combination has 0 stock, the product is treated as sold out.

I edited an axis and combinations disappeared

Deleting an axis value also removes the combinations that include it. Check the stock of those combinations before deleting a value.

The same option has different names in different orders

This is a symptom of versions before 0.2.3. Updating to the latest version rebuilds names from axis values so they match.
